Indeed there are several questions linked with the origins and development of the bridge which are tied up both with the changes to the course of the Cherwell and the siting of and approaches to the
earlier bridge. In dry weather it should be possible to relocate the timber remains of the first bridge and possibly take some samples for analysis and dating.
